The Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship (VCIS) is awarded to recognize academic excellence for international students. This is a highly competitive scholarship based on academic merit and is awarded to talented students intending to pursue a Bachelor’s or Master’s coursework degree at Macquarie University. This scholarship provides up to AUD $10,000 applied towards your tuition fee. This is a very limited scholarship, so we encourage you to accept your offer and scholarship early to avoid disappointment.

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must be a full-time international student commencing an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree (excluding Graduate Certificates and Global MBA courses) and meet the following criteria:

  • Achieve a minimum WAM equivalent of 65 for postgraduate applications; or a minimum ATAR equivalent of 85 for undergraduate applications.
  • Commence study in the session and year indicated in your scholarship letter of offer.

The Macquarie University UAC International Scholarship is awarded to all eligible students applying for a Macquarie University bachelor’s degree through the University Admissions Centre (UAC). The scholarship is valued at AUD $10,000 and is credited towards your tuition fee (AUD $5,000 will be credited in the first two sessions of your degree)

About the scholarship

The Macquarie University Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship – African Women in STEM supports studies in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The value of the scholarship is 50% of the total tuition fee and will be applied towards your tuition fee when you commence your study at Macquarie University. This scholarship encourages women from the African region to explore their full potential and supports them in pursuing their quest for knowledge.

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must be a female applicant studying a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics degree at an undergraduate or postgraduate (coursework) level and meet the following criteria:

  • Be a citizen of a Sub-Saharan region.
  • Achieve a minimum of 65 WAM for postgraduate or a minimum of 85 ATAR (or equivalent) for undergraduate applications.
  • Hold a full offer for one of the courses listed in the ‘Applicable course’ section below (single or double degree).
  • Be a full-time student studying on campus.
  • Must not have received a scholarship or sponsorship from Macquarie University or another organization for the degree (unless stated otherwise by the Scholarship Committee).

About the scholarship

The scholarships will be targeted at students studying Science, Engineering, and IT degrees. Preference will be given to students who can demonstrate hardship or disadvantage. Examples include (but are not limited to) financial disadvantage, non-English speaking background, geographic disadvantage, and disability.

This scholarship is awarded for up to 4 years for Undergraduate or up to 2 years for Postgraduate students, subject to meeting ongoing eligibility criteria.

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Have admission to an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree in the Faculty of Science and Engineering in Session 1 2024.
  • Be a female-identifying student.
  • Intend to study Full-Time and internally (i.e. on campus).
  • Demonstrated record of high academic achievement.
  • Can demonstrate the ability to work hard to achieve their goals.
  • Preference will be given to students who can demonstrate financial hardship or disadvantage.

How to Apply

Applications are available via Macquarie University Scholarship Application. Applicants will need to provide two references, one from an academic source (e.g. school principal) and one from another person who can comment on suitability for this scholarship. Short-listed applicants may be contacted to attend an informal interview with representatives of Macquarie University. The application will include a personal statement that should discuss the following four questions:

  • Why have you chosen this degree?
  • What do you hope to achieve once you complete this degree?
  • How might this scholarship make a difference to your studies and career?

About the scholarship

Under this scholarship, Macquarie University will provide up to AUD $1,000 to each successful student as a one-off payment applied towards the student’s Study Abroad tuition fee. Please note that while we try to make most units open to Study Abroad Program students, we do have a list of units that are unfortunately restricted. International students who wish to experience Australian culture through a Study Abroad program at Macquarie University are eligible to apply for the Macquarie University Study Abroad Scholarship.

About the scholarship

This early acceptance scholarship is awarded to talented international students from Nigeria who intend to pursue a coursework degree at Macquarie University, offsetting almost a third of their annual tuition fees. Among one of the most generous in Australia, this scholarship is valued at AUD $5,000 per year for the duration of a Bachelor’s or Master’s coursework degree. For sessions: AUD $5,000 will be credited in the second session of the first year of enrolment, and AUD $ 2,500 will be credited in each subsequent session for the duration of the course. For terms: AUD $3,750 will be credited in the third term of the first year of enrolment, and AUD $ 1,250 will be credited in each subsequent term for the duration of the course.
